Week 26

Weekly Greetings! Another week has quickly passed, and we are on the count down to Spring Break in two weeks. With a month of cold weather, we spent some time creating a board to make us smile. Fortunately, warmer weather also helped last week and the students could get outside for most of their recesses. The annual Science Fair was on Tuesday, and there were a few students that had projects to enter through their afternoon pod class this quarter. The whole class went to view all the entries and support the students from our class that participated. Wednesday, we had another special activity with a team from UAF sharing about "Our Winter World". The introductions started in the fifth grade classroom and then we divided into small groups for an outside scavenger hunt and snow exploration.  Back inside, the observations and lessons from outside were reviewed before viewing a simulation on avalanches.  Weekly Greetings! It was nice to have some warmer weather and get the students outside for recess again. Hopefully, it will remain warm enough to do the same this week. Please make sure your child has all their winter gear with them on Wednesday, as we will be doing a special snow activity outside with a team from UAF. Another special event going on this Tuesday is the district Science Fair. There are six students from the fourth grade with projects to enter. They have been a part of the Science Fair Preparation Pod this quarter. The informational boards will be on display after 9am, and their projects will be taken up at 12:30pm when the judges will be doing interviews. As for last week, we have been studying the Solar System in Science and each student made a simple model. On Wednesday, we went to learn about characteristics of caribou with Tim Lorenzini from the Tetlin Refuge.  The students seemed very interested and even got to help out with the dissection.

Weekly Greetings! What a great week we had! In-between our regular content work, we did a few additional enjoyable activities. It is always fun to get with the kindergarten students for Book Buddies. The theme for the activity time was Valentine's Day, and the fourth grade was greeted with cards made by their little buddies. Then everyone settled in for a read aloud before heading to the library.  It is so sweet to watch the class snuggle up with books to read that their buddies have picked.  Once back in the classroom, there were lots of word games and movement activities before a yummy snack. On Friday, we were fortunate to get some time with Ms. Shauna Lee to work with clay. The students have started a bowl project. To end our day on Friday, we had our Valentine's Day party. There were all kinds of treats and cards to share before we watched a short history on where the celebration originated. The love was surely felt by all in room!
