Week 7

Weekly Greetings! First, I want to make sure you are aware that school pictures will be this Thursday, October 3. There will be a make up day the following week if your child is out that day. We will start the week off with Science again and have started a unit on living things. Last week we studied the life cycle and parts of the butterflies we had had in the class and then let them go to complete their life cycle in freedom. The next day we made a butterfly craft as a memory.     The afternoon Pod classes are going well. I have half of the 4th graders in my Folk Tales and Legends class. We have studied numerous folk characters such as Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan, and John Henry.  The students have enjoyed the creative problem solving kits that have supported those three main characters.   The MAP testing went well last week, and thank you for having your child there everyday. On Friday we celebrated the completion by tossing our foam frisbees around the room

Weekly Greetings! Last week we were able to start off on Tuesday using the Makerspace room for our visit. The students of Tok School are so fortunate to have such an incredible place to explore and create. I love watching as they interact together and explore all the options available to work with in the room. You can see by the smiles on their faces in the photos to follow, how much they enjoyed our time there. Please remember that if all goes well with the changes being made to the MAP program, we will start the fall session on Tuesday through Thursday mornings. It is important that your child be on time those days and well rested, so they can do their best on the test. Also, some days last week were pretty chilly with a cold wind when the students were outside for recess. It is that time of year again to think about warmer clothes for school. Have a great week! Warm regards!

Weekly Greetings! I hope you all enjoyed the four-day break, and that you have been successful with the fall moose harvest. With a short three days last week, we spent some time doing review work but will press full on this week. Probably the only real highlight from our short week was the pep rally on Friday afternoon to announce the start of Volleyball season. The third through fifth grade classes attended in their pod  groups and watched the serving contest. Everyone was invited to compete from each grade in attendance, but I could not get any fourth graders to try...Even so, I think everyone enjoyed the event. The MAP testing window opens this week, but with the long weekend and hunting season, I will wait for the following week to test. It is always important to have your child well rested and on time, but especially when we have to do these standardized tests. Most of the students made good gains last year, and I am hoping to keep that momentum going this year. H

Weekly Greetings! With hunting season upon us, there will be two more short weeks. This week will be the shortest with only three days due to the teacher in-service on Monday. Friday and the following Monday are considered vacation days so families can go hunting. For the reasons just mentioned the students will have the same spelling list for the next two weeks. Most of the students did pretty good on the first spelling unit, and I will send their tests home on Thursday with the end of the week work. Since our reading time is in the afternoon this year, I cannot get them scored until after school is over on Friday afternoon. As for a few highlights from last week, our Pod classes are in full swing, and the Folk Tales and Legends class made apple cookies as a tag after studying Johnny Appleseed. They also did a great job of comparing the tales of John Henry and Johnny Appleseed as a critical think activity.  There are seven 4th graders in the class, so I have included some c

Weekly Greetings! I hope everyone enjoyed the three-day weekend, and the beautiful fall weather. With a day off on Monday, it will make for a short week for us all. I will be starting to send homework this week, but if your child is attending GAP it will most likely be done there. The GAP program is structured for the first 15 minutes, to have students do any homework or unfinished assignments that they bring. Also, please be aware that next Monday there will be a teacher in-service, so there will not be school that day. The school counselor will be making monthly visits to the class, and he will start this week off with additional social skills enrichment. As I mentioned last week, we are really focusing on an attitude of perseverance to be successful in life. There are a couple other important events this week, starting on Wednesday there will be the Student of the Month assembly for August, and birthday recognition for August and September. It will start at 8:30am. On Fri
