Week 28

Greetings, I am assuming, like myself, most of you reading this are following the updates on the COVID-19 pandemic. After a great week leading up to our Spring Break, it hard to accept that we are on hold for  the students to return to school. I am sure by now,  most of you have been contacted by the district as they have rapidly been addressing this situation. It is my understanding that they are getting a food program in place, and teachers have been informed to prepare packets of schoolwork by March 27. This also means that Parent/Teacher conferences are on hold until further notice. I will making an effort to contact you all in the upcoming days. As for that wonderful week we had before break, here are a few photos. Due to the cold weather on the Wednesday we planned our sledding outing with the class "Book Buddies", we had to wait until Friday morning. Instead, we still got together and learned a little about the history and traditions of St. Patrick's Day. After

Weekly Greetings! Well, the cold weather seemed to continue to keep the students inside last week! Even though the actual temperature seemed to warm a bit, the wind chill put the actual temperature below minus 20. We have been trying to get creative during our PE time, and also when the K-4 used the gym during recesses, with more structured activities. Some students had never bowled before and learned during a PE rotation one day. They also had a choice of badminton and volleyball. This will be the last week of Quarter 3 and the current afternoon Pod classes. I have really enjoyed doing the Science Fair Preparation Pod, and now that the district Science Fair is done, we have been redoing some past experiments and making our own conclusions. Furthermore, we did some STEM activities, and followed direction to build some interesting projects. This week, we are still planning to go sledding on Wednesday with our kindergarten "Book Buddies". I am hoping it i

Weekly Greetings! Another week has quickly passed, and we are on the count down to Spring Break in two weeks. With a month of cold weather, we spent some time creating a board to make us smile. Fortunately, warmer weather also helped last week and the students could get outside for most of their recesses. The annual Science Fair was on Tuesday, and there were a few students that had projects to enter through their afternoon pod class this quarter. The whole class went to view all the entries and support the students from our class that participated. Wednesday, we had another special activity with a team from UAF sharing about "Our Winter World". The introductions started in the fifth grade classroom and then we divided into small groups for an outside scavenger hunt and snow exploration.  Back inside, the observations and lessons from outside were reviewed before viewing a simulation on avalanches. This week we will continue to press

Weekly Greetings! It was nice to have some warmer weather and get the students outside for recess again. Hopefully, it will remain warm enough to do the same this week. Please make sure your child has all their winter gear with them on Wednesday, as we will be doing a special snow activity outside with a team from UAF. Another special event going on this Tuesday is the district Science Fair. There are six students from the fourth grade with projects to enter. They have been a part of the Science Fair Preparation Pod this quarter. The informational boards will be on display after 9am, and their projects will be taken up at 12:30pm when the judges will be doing interviews. As for last week, we have been studying the Solar System in Science and each student made a simple model. On Wednesday, we went to learn about characteristics of caribou with Tim Lorenzini from the Tetlin Refuge.  The students seemed very interested and even got to help out with the dissection.
