Week 14

Weekly Greetings!

It was pretty amazing how much we did in just four days last week. Before I share about all that, let me remind you that we have a full five days this week. Then the following week before Thanksgiving, the students will have a week off. Also I was able to mention to some of you at Parent/Teacher conference, but I will share again that the class could use some snacks donated as the school only provides snacks now two times a week.

Now for a recap of some highlights from last week. The bleachers were packed for the Veterans Day ceremony at the school Monday morning. Tok Boy Scouts presented the colors and we all said the pledge of allegiance. The Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades sang Yankee Doodle before the poem  "In Flanders Filed" was read. The guest speaker was very inspiring and focused on the saying "Some gave all, and all gave some". That really stuck with the 4th grade when we discussed it later.
After the role call to recognize the veterans in attendance was completed, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades sang "America the Beautiful". Then the closing song with all the students was "This Land Is Your Land".
In science on Tuesday, the students worked in small groups to start an experiment on how fast it will take for bread to decompose. We will check the three different samples each week.
Wednesday morning was our day to meet with the Kindergarten for our Reading Buddies time. We started with a story, and then went to the library so the 4th grade could read with their buddies.
After the visit to the library, we returned to the Kindergarten class to make a craft and create a delicious snack. It has been wonderful to watch how well the 4th graders work with the younger students, and they have been really good role models for their little buddies.
As for this week, Mr. Dunning will be in for a Social Skills lesson on Monday. We also have the use of the Makerspace room on Tuesday. So there will be a couple of special activities this week. Also, the Book Fair will continue, and the hours are:

School days: 8:00-8:30am and 3:30-5:30pm
Saturday Nov. 23rd: 10-2pm at the Bazaar at Tok School

Thank you to those of you that were able to make the conference last week!

Have a terrific week!
